Jiu-Jitsu fans will have an extra incentive to attend The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2013, as organizers today announced an incredible prize for anyone attending the event opening days of the championship.
With a world-class line-up of fighters competing over four action-packed days, organizers are giving fans the opportunity to win a master class with special guests and UFC legends, American B. J. Penn and Brazilian Demian Maia.
All Martial Arts enthusiasts simply need to head to event venue ADNEC before 3pm on Friday 12th April and register for the once-in-a lifetime training session with Penn and Maia. The training session will take place ahead the black belt finals on the Friday afternoon. Lucky winners will be named on the day. For those not fortune enough to gain a place at the masterclass, fans will not be disappointed as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu heroes will be meeting and fans and signing autographs.
Demian Maia, 35 is a third degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has won several major tournaments under Team Brazil. Respected throughout the martial arts fraternity, he reached the pinnacle of the sport in 2005 when he won the Champion of the World Cup tournament in 2005 and the Vice Pan-American Champion. In 2006 he defended his Pan American Champions and the Vice Absolute Brazilian Champion. He is also the only Sao Paulo tri-champion absolute black belt (2003, 2004, and 2006).
Ahead of his special appearance to watch The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, Maia said: “I am looking forward to attending the World Championships in Abu Dhabi and seeing the current stars of Jiu-Jitsu fight in the sport I love. It is also a great opportunity to meet fans from the region to have a training session with them and also to pass on some valuable advice whether they want to compete in Jiu-Jitsu or just get fitter.”
B. J. Penn, 34, is an American mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner who competes in UFC. Penn was the first American and non-Brazilian winner of the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in the black belt category. He is also thought to have earned the fastest black belt of all active Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.
Looking ahead to his training sessions with fans, B. J. Penn said: “It is a great privilege to be asked to attend such a fantastic event on world platform and interact with fans and pass on our tips and experience to the next generation of Jiu-Jitsu fighters. These sessions are also important to tell youngsters how Jiu-Jitsu is not just about fighting but also to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Abdulmunam Al Hashemi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Federation said: “Along with a fantastic line-up of Jiu-Jitsu fighters from across the world, we also have two fighters from UFC who will be taking part in events throughout the championship. It is a great opportunity for fans to get in early and be in with a chance to have a one-on-one training session with two great champions.”
The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2013 & World Jiu-Jitsu Children’s Cup take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) – ICC Hall and are completely free to attend for all fans.
