Lorenzo Sanz, former star forward and title-winning coach of Real Madrid basketball club, has sunk a two-pointer of a different kind, a looping shot through the gaping jaws of Slither’s Slides - one of the main attractions at Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi.
Sanz, who played for Real Madrid Baloncesto from 1995 to 1998, is in the United Arab Emirates visiting his sister and brother-in-law, Michel Salgado, the former Real Madrid FC and Spain right-back.
After making a beeline for Yas Waterworld - one of the world’s most futuristic water parks - with his three children and Salgado’s daughter and son, Sanz was impressed.
“It was amazing, the kids absolutely loved it,” said Sanz, who coached Real Madrid to a dramatic championship title in 2000, clinched via a memorable final-game-of-the-season victory over rivals FC Barcelona Regal.
“Michel’s children had been to the park before and told my kids they had to see it,” Sanz said. “There are rides and slides for children of all ages, the water is cool – it’s a great place to enjoy the sun and have some fun.”
Featuring 43 thrill-a-minute rides, slides and attractions, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi covers a 15-hectare site on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s entertainment district.
