The National Bank of Abu Dhabi’s (NBAD) Ambassadors who journeyed to Antarctica with other explorers returned home to promote awareness about the environment and sustainability.
The four selected NBAD explorers were part of the “2041 International Antarctica Expedition,” a movement that annually organizes trips to Antarctica to highlight the effects of global warming and to ensure the continued protection of Antarctica from mining and exploitation beyond year 2041, when the current international agreement ends.
NBAD officials welcomed home Khaled Ameeni, Junior Credit Analyst in the Risk Management Division; Majed Al Hamli, Senior Officer of Cash Management and Investigations in the Global Markets Operation; Mohammed Al Ansari, Emirati Development Manager, Human Resources Group; and Omar AlShamsi- Vice President of Institutional Coverage, Global Financial Markets.
“Thank you for representing the United Arab Emirates in this expedition and worthy cause. Our culture is founded on caring for others and the earth and you represented this value in your journey,” said Ehab Hassan, the Group Chief Human Resources Officer of NBAD. “NBAD sponsored their journey as this is in line without strategy to help individuals grow and contribute to their nation and community.”
The NBAD Explorers commenced their journey by flying to Ushuaia, Argentina where they joined other explorers from around the world. Then on February 28, their ship began sailing to the Frozen Continent.
They experienced the wildlife of the Frozen Continent, lived and breathed a sustainable lifestyle, and learned about the importance of preserving natural resources and the role of renewable energy in balancing the ecosystem. In addition to environmental knowledge and sustainable practices, the expedition helped them to develop personal and leadership skills.
The four NBAD explorers followed the five women from NBAD who made the same journey with the Bank’s sponsorship.
“As the five women inspired us with their story last year, I am confident that these four young men’s stories of strength, determination and thoughtfulness will serve as an example to all people at the Bank and beyond,” Mr. Hassan said.
