The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), the Number One Bank in the UAE, will be joining millions globally on March 23, 2013 to observe Earth Hour, the world’s largest campaign for the environment, for the fourth consecutive year.
Starting at 8:30 p.m. on March 23, NBAD will turn off all lights at its 30-storey head office, One NBAD Tower, an Abu Dhabi landmark; as well as the Bank’s Khalidiya office in Abu Dhabi.
“We believe that it is important for NBAD to participate in Earth Hour as a member of Abu Dhabi community,” says Belinda Scott, the Senior Manager of Corporate Sustainability at NBAD. “By participating in Earth Hour, we aim to contribute to raising environmental awareness within the community about the importance of adopting a sustainable and responsible lifestyle as well as encourage ongoing positive actions toward the environment.”
Earth Hour, a globally-celebrated event since 2007, is organised by Emirates Wildlife Society in cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature EWS-WWF.
The event aims to highlight the risks of climate change and practice conservation of energy and reduce carbon emissions through encouraging individuals and organisations to switch off their lights for one designated hour.
“We encourage everyone to join us and take part in this initiative as one step towards saving planet earth and its precious resources. Protecting the environment is everybody’s responsibility and together we can make a difference,” Ms. Scott says.
