National Committee To Combat Human Trafficking Organises Workshop On Bali Process

The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking organised a workshop on the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime (Bali Process).

“As part of its missions, especially those linked to international cooperation, the National Committee is keen to work with international and regional bodies to effectively combat human trafficking crimes. The Bali Process is as one of the finest mechanisms that facilitate coordination and cooperation among its members to eliminate such crimes. Therefore we have chosen to organise this workshop to enhance awareness on the roles of such international process,” said His Excellency, Dr Saeed Mohammad Al Ghafli, Assistant Undersecretary in the Ministry of State of Federal National Council Affairs and Rapporteur of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.

The workshop was attended by Scott Bjerregaard a senior official from the Australian Consulate General who explained the Bali Process objectives, especially the development of more effective information and intelligence sharing, improved cooperation among regional law enforcement agencies to deter and combat people smuggling and trafficking networks, and enhanced cooperation on border and visa systems to detect and prevent illegal movements. The official also described how increased public awareness can discourage such activities and alert the susceptible, and spoke on enhanced effectiveness of return as a strategy to deter people smuggling and trafficking through conclusion of appropriate arrangements.

Members of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking attended the workshop, including those representing the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interiors, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Red Crescent, Federal Prosecutors, Abu Dhabi Prosecution, Dubai Prosecutions, the Shelters, Dubai Foundation for Women and Children and Emirates Association for Human Rights.
