Al Ain Zoo Introduces Exciting Activities For 2013
(5 March 2013)
Following highly successful 2012, Al Ain Zoo plans spring activities in build-up to anticipated 2013 opening of Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre

Following a highly successful 2012 in which Al Ain Zoo welcomed approximately one million visitors, the zoo plans to surpass last year’s figures with the launch of the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre and various other exciting activities to attract more visitors.

As recently announced, African culture rules Al Ain Zoo for the whole of March. Families can enjoy upbeat traditional African dance performances, a range of authentic African foods at Zarafa Café, while African artefacts are available for sale alongside a display of works from various African artists. Guests can also enjoy the Mixed African Exhibit – a favourite among visitors as it features African wildlife roaming freely across a wide open space that resembles the animals’ natural habitat.

Following a similar cultural theme, Al Ain Zoo will be announcing more details on activities throughout the year, which will also mark the opening of the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre. Embedded within the UAE World Desert, the centre will feature educational exhibits that celebrate the wildlife and traditions of the desert, showcasing the conservation heritage of the late H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and helping to chart a sustainable future for desert living.

Fatima Al Zaabi, Operations Manager at Al Ain Zoo, said:

“Al Ain Zoo has enjoyed success year after year as we have continued to increase the number of exhibits, entertainment activities, and visitor services and dining choices, while expanding our conservation efforts. In 2012, the zoo welcomed approximately one million visitors and we have a number of exciting activities planned for 2013 that we are confident will attract even more guests. We are extremely excited about the upcoming opening of the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, an expansion in our product offering that will increase awareness regarding the UAE’s natural history and wildlife conservation efforts.

Al Ain Zoo’s other exhibits include the Cat House, home to the majestic White Lion Exhibit, in addition to a spectacular display of African lions, African leopards, jaguars, pumas and tigers. White tigers, cheetahs, the Arabian Leopard, and Arabian sand cats are also on exhibit, and Al Ain Zoo houses beautiful exhibits of birds, reptiles, and nocturnal animals as well. The 2012 zoo-borns, which included White Rhinoceros, Zebra, Rhim Ghazelle, Chital, Scimitar-Horned Oryx and Addax, are now grown and can be seen interacting with their parents as the zoo gears up to welcome more new-borns this spring.

Al Ain Zoo, which is open daily from 9am to 8pm, is located on the UAE-Oman border and is a short drive from Dubai and the UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi. With the majestic Jebel Hafeet and the rich expanse of Green Mubazzarah as its backdrop, Al Ain Zoo is one of the city’s leading attractions.
