Abu Dhabi water demand to increase 43% by 2013
(24 August 2008)

According to forecasts made by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), demand for water in Abu Dhabi will grow by 43 percent in the next five years, while demand for electricity will nearly double during this period.

Forecasts further showed that currently, the Umm Al Nar plant produces 165 million gallons each day and the Taweelah plant 231 million gallons.

Al Marfa plant has an output of 39 million gallons, Al Shuweihat plant 101 million gallons and Al Fujairah plant 90 million gallons.

ADWEA has evolved a five-year strategy to produce 969 million gallons of water per day, virtually doubling the present capacity of a number of desalination plants scattered throughout Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) is responsible for water and power supply in the emirate.
