The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi (DoT) in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police announced today the launch of the five week long “Truck Enforcement Committee” Programme, in order to gather data from more than 500 trucks in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The objective is to ensure a workable and detailed database to achieve successful studies relating to the programme.
This initiative is designed to increase safety levels and find necessary traffic solutions in Abu Dhabi, in addition to reducing reckless driving habits and serious accidents caused by trucks through specialist technicians to examine thoroughly and accurately the brake, oil leakage, tires, lighting of the trucks and the weight of the trucks in addition to questionnaire in various languages aimed at trucks and articulated truck drivers.
The Truck Enforcement Committee Programme will be implemented to regulate the traffic flow of trucks in Trucks Control Stations that cover strategic locations, which include Musaffah, one of the primary industrial areas of Abu Dhabi, Khatam Al Shukla border exit in Al Ain and the Al Ghuwaifat exit in the Western Region, the Dynamic exit which connects the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This programme will contain accurate and important data such as violations, like trucks weights, speed limits, damaged tires, In addition to drivers’ identity documents, full technical inspections and the mechanical condition of trucks.
Both team will also analyze the data and deliver extensive suggestions to implement innovative traffic solutions that will limit violations that result in accidents. After the completion of this stage the team will provide a comprehensive report containing proposals and recommendations for traffic solutions that can be applied to "Joint Safety and Traffic Solutions Committee", a group comprising the Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi; Abu Dhabi Police; Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) and the Municipality of Abu Dhabi (ADM), dealing with all aspects of road safety and commuters in Abu Dhabi.
This programme will support surface transport, through improving traffic safety; maintaining the infrastructure of roads and bridges; organizing of surface transport and present integrated traffic solutions to enhance overall road safety.
It is noteworthy that this comes in a time when the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is witnessing rapid growth across various key economic sectors, which lead to an unprecedented increase in traffic throughout the Emirate. This requires the need to take necessary measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and improved traffic safety.
