Etoiles Hospitality Group, one of the leading entertainment and food and beverage management companies in Abu Dhabi, is excited to announce that international artist and rapper MIMS will be performing at their Bring Down the House urban night on Friday 22nd February, 2013.
Mims (aka Sean Mims) is an American Jamaican rapper from New York who is most famous for his ‘This Is Why I’m Hot’ track in 2007, which entered the Billboard 100 chart at No. 32 and jumped to No.1 within its first week. The leap was recorded as the third biggest in the chart’s history and the first No. 1 single for its label, Capitol Records. The track generated 1,000 spins per week and a radio-listening audience well above 59 million, with a remix featuring reggae legend Junior Reid and Cham released shortly after.
In March 2007, Mims released his self-titled debut album ‘Music Is My Savior’ (EMI Capitol). Though the album’s production was mostly dirty south-inspired, Mims’ style is indicative of his East Coast influences, a cross between Jay-Z’s braggadocio and Jim Jones’ swagger.
Mims’ first foray into music occurred when he was 13 years old, after his mother bought him DJ equipment. As a result, DJing, engineering and producing became his first loves prior to picking up a microphone. Even after losing both his parents (his father at age 11, and then his mother at 13), rather than give up, it made him work even harder to achieve his dreams - pursuing a career in rap music became the thing Mims wanted to do the most.
Because of his struggle-filled life experiences, Mims not only has the talent, but the fervour to impact his generation. His rhymes traverse a wide range of territories; from the clubs to the street, and to the world at large, which is full of introspection, maturity, courageousness, sharp wit and humour. Other songs he has released that elicit such moods are ‘Don’t Cry’, ‘Just Like That’ and ‘It’s Alright’, which demonstrate and prove Mims’ dexterity as a rap artist.
