Abu Dhabi To Host The Advances In Medicine And Subspecialties (AIMS) Conference
(4 February 2013)

H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research to inaugurate the ‘Advances in Medicine and Subspecialties (AIMS) Conference’ that will commence from the 13th until the 15th of February at the Jumeirah Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the meeting is further endorsed by SEHA and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) and is all set to welcome healthcare professionals from across UAE, GCC, Middle Eastern countries and North America

Subspecialties of medicine, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and endocrinology, infectious diseases, nephrology, gastroenterology, hematology, oncology, respirology, rheumatology and neurology are amongst the theme sessions that will be discussed at the AIMS Conference.

CME accreditation will be provided from Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (provider of CME credits in the USA) to healthcare professionals and allies - including doctors in internal medicine, all of its subspecialties, general practitioners, family physicians, medical residents and fellows.

David Bronson, President of the American College of Physicians - one of the largest organization of internal medicine physicians, will shed light on the challenges to internal medicine in the United States and internationally. According to Bronson, only 10 to 12 percent of recent IM residency graduates are choosing traditional IM careers, with the majority pursing medical subspecialties and hospital medicine. Medical school debt, income disparities and perceived status are fuelling the change. Countervailing forces include the increase in US medical school graduates without a change in graduate medical education positions.

The conference program will be spread over 3 days of main events with two plenary lectures on each day, followed by three “Theme Sessions” comprising of 3-4 lectures each from a list of absolutely distinguished local and international faculty, many of whom are involved in cutting edge research in their fields and are a part of international guideline panels. Speakers include senior faculty from Harvard Medical School, Columbia University, Baylor College of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, University of California in San Diego, University of Oklahoma, Weill-Cornell Medical College Qatar, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The conference is being chaired by Adeel Ajwad Butt, chair of Department of Medicine at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and Associate Professor of Medicine and Clinical and Translational Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He has extensive experience in conducting medical educational programs internationally, and has authored over 170 papers or research presentations at international meetings.

Delegates can pre-register or register onsite - the registration fees include congress material and access to all general sessions, exhibition areas, coffee breaks and lunches.

Sponsors include Novartis, Astra Zeneca, Bayer Health Care, Janssen, Sanofi and Pfizer.
