The ArtBus invites art lovers of the region to the showcase event of the legendary Pablo Picasso at Gallery One of Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. The Art Bus serves as a convoy of luxury vehicles that link the public to prominent art events and galleries in the UAE.

Decades after he made history, Picasso’s work makes its first public appearance in the United Arab Emirates at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. A showcase that will include works spanning all periods and styles in the career of the 20th century’s signature artist who revolutionized European painting.

Picasso was raised in a middle class family with minor aristocratic ancestors. He received formal artistic training from his father Don Jose Ruiz, a professor of art at the School of Crafts and a curator of a local museum. Showing passion and skill for art at a very young age, Picasso is known to have been the reason for his father giving up painting, on account of his son having surpassed him in artistic vision and technique. In 1897, a 16-year old Picasso set off on his own and soon revolutionized European art with famous works like the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) and his depiction of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, Guernica (1937).

The Retrospective Picasso at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi will feature masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris, featuring 186 paintings, sculptures and works on paper. Abu Dhabi is the second city in a nine-nation tour of this exhibition, after the launch in Madrid’s Reina Sofía museum. The UAE capital exhibition also holds the advantage of being differentiated by the limited inclusion of 40 drawings, prints and illuminated manuscripts reminiscent of the Arab influences Picasso absorbed during his youth in Malaga.

The prices of tickets are AED 200 for adults and AED100 for children. The rate is not inclusive of lunch.
