The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs will organize a Political Awareness Development Forum for university students in collaboration with the UAE University on 12–13 November 2012. The initiative reflects the ministry’s efforts to enhance political development in line with the Sheikh Khalifa Programme for Political Empowerment launched in 2005.
“We aim to use the Forum as a platform to explain to the students the importance of gaining awareness about the UAE political system and its role in achieving balanced development,” said Tariq Lootah, Director General of the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs.
“Targeting university students at this stage is vital for our future plan to enhance political awareness among the UAE community as they represent the cornerstone in the UAE’s development process and help maintain its achievements considering that they are tomorrow’s leaders,” added Mr Lootah.
“It is a pride to host such a forum which brings together academic and political leaders to discuss and highlight many issues with students to encourage political thinking aimed at protecting rights and respecting others’ opinion. This creative approach was established by our founding fathers, and what we are doing today is just refining and developing our students’ abilities to remain close to these political values and thinking. I invite all the students to be part of this initiative,” said Dr Ali Rashid Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Vice Chancellor of UAE University.
“The Forum is a great starting point that brings together the UAE’s political thinkers to discuss and exchange views with attendees about a number of important issues related to political participation and development. It also highlights the past political experience and its continuous development in the UAE,” said Dr Saeed Al-Ghafli, Assistant Undersecretary of FNC Affairs.
“What makes the Forum unique is the combination of the academic aspects and practical political experiences. The first aspect is represented by the presence of leading experts and lecturers who will focus on theoretical issues, while a group of FNC Members will narrate to the students their actual experience in the process of legislation and coordination the between legislative and executive authorities,” added Dr Al- Ghafli.
The Forum aims to enhance social and political awareness for university students and encourage them to play a proactive role in national development as per the leadership directives. It will host select official government speakers, university professors, experts and students, who will receive some worksheets on political awareness.
Mr Lootah will head the first session of the Forum titled “Empowerment Philosophy”, while the second session titled “The Role of FNC” will be headed by Dr Mohammed Al-Bili, Dean of Humanities and Social Science.
The 3rd session titled “FNC Elections” will be headed by His Excellency Dr Saeed Al Ghafli and the fourth one titled “Political Culture and the Role of Community Organizations” will be headed by Dr Aisha Al Naimi, Director of Mass Communication Section, at the University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Science.
