TROPFEST Arabia, part of the world’s largest short film festival, has announced today that Lebanese singer Carole Samaha will be performing a FREE concert of her popular hits live at the second edition of TROPFEST Arabia, on 26th October 2012 on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Carole Samaha is an award-winning Lebanese pop artist who quickly became one of the Arab world’s biggest stars with the release of her first album in 2003. Carole has since won several Murex D’Or Awards, including Best Album in 2009 and Best Video Clip in 2011. She has lit up stages with concerts around the world and is the founder of “La Karma” production house in Beirut.
“I am excited to be part of such a wonderful and inspiring event,” explained Carole. “The film and media industry in the Middle East are growing, and events like TROPFEST Arabia are really encouraging emerging filmmakers. I can’t wait to meet the directors and perform my hits in front of the crowds on the beach in Abu Dhabi.”
Last year’s TROPFEST Arabia presenters, Qusai Kheder and Raya Abirached, will be returning to host this year’s festival. Raya, a Lebanese TV personality and celebrity journalist, and Qusai, a Saudi Arabian rapper and songwriter, are the hosts of MBC4’s hit show, Arab’s Got Talent.
TROPFEST Arabia has shortlisted 16 short films from across the Arab world from the hundreds that were submitted to this year’s edition. The films were shortlisted by John Polson, founder of TROPFEST, and Tunisian actress Hend Sabry, this year’s co-director of TROPFEST Arabia. They will be screened publicly for the first time on the Abu Dhabi Corniche on 26th October and winners will be selected live at the event by a panel of six judges.
MBC2 is the presenting partner of Tropfest Arabia’s second edition. This year’s sponsors include Motion Picture Association, Variety International, SE7EN Productions, Etihad Airways, Mercedes EMC and Park Rotana. Gulf News will be the media partner of the evening.
The shortlisted films will also be available online, giving some of the region’s rising talent a platform to show their creative work.
