American-born soul diva Jocelyn Brown will be the star performer at this year’s highly anticipated Chequered Flag Ball –the glittering red carpet event that kicks off the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.

The elegant black-tie ball, now into its fourth year, will take place at the St Regis Hotel Saadiyat Island Resort on November 2, and promises to welcome a host of top celebrities from the worlds of film, music, sport and fashion.

Organisers today announced that Brown will headline the event, with Eddie Jordan and his rock band Eddie & the Robbers back by popular demand as the supporting act.

Brown (61) has enjoyed a music career spanning four decades having first gained international acclaim with the release of her debut album for Warner Brothers Records ‘One From The Heart’ in 1984, featuring perennial club classic ‘Somebody Else’s Guy’.

Brown – noted for her powerful, soul-shaking voice, has worked with some of the best in the music business over the last 30 years, including stellar names like Luther Vandross, Bette Midler, John Lennon, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Roberta Flack, George Benson, Teddy Pendergrass and Culture Club.

Speaking ahead of her visit to Abu Dhabi in November, Brown said: “I’m delighted to be coming back out to Abu Dhabi, and I can’t wait to entertain the crowd at the Chequered Flag Ball.

“Abu Dhabi is a spectacular place and one that I always love to visit and perform in.

“The Chequered Flag Ball is an incredibly intimate event that’s a real treat to perform at. I know everyone who comes this year is going to have a sensational time.”

With previous events having welcomed stars such as David Coultard, tennis star Boris Becker, British actor Hugh Grant, and British television celebrities Kirsty Gallacher and Kelly Brook in the name of motorsport, the scene is set for another star-studded night of high-octane glamour.

“To me, F1 is such a glamorous and prestigious sport that needs equally glamorous events like the Chequered Flag Ball to do it justice,” said Brown.

“Ladies and gentlemen, bring your dancing shoes because this is going to be one heck of a party.”
