Aldar Celebrates Construction Health And Safety Record With Villa Delivery Ongoing At Al Falah Community
(4 September 2012)

Aldar’s project team has celebrated more than 50 million man hours without experiencing an injury resulting in lost work time in the construction process at Al Falah community, the prestigious 4,857 villa community for UAE Nationals.

The introduction and development of suitable Emirati Housing projects across the Emirate is a key component of the Vision 2030 development guidelines, which are being implemented by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council. Over the course of 2012, Aldar has handed over 2079 villas to the relevant authorities and a number of UAE Nationals are now receiving keys to their new homes. Meanwhile, work on the remaining units is on track for timely delivery by the end of this year.

A workforce that at times totalled 30,000 workers achieved an outstanding 50,578,000 incident-free hours of work on the project since the beginning of the year, a milestone that was made possible by Aldar’s commitment to applying best-practice health and safety standards and ensuring that all concerned parties adhere to them.

"This is a great accomplishment by the whole team working on the Al Falah community and a testament to the positive culture and high safety standards applied on the site. Tremendous congratulations are due to the Aldar team and all our construction partners and suppliers who have collaborated in making Al Falah such a safe and productive working environment," said Sami Asad, Chief Executive Officer, Aldar.

"This is a particularly significant achievement when you consider the scale and magnitude of the project and the many different teams of consultants, contractors and subcontractors involved, each of which has to adhere to the rigorous guidelines and criteria set by the Abu Dhabi Municipality Environment, Health and Safety Centre and Aldar’s stringent policies and procedures," said Mazen Abu Hamra, Aldar’s Environment, Health and Safety Manager at Al Falah.

Over the past year, the total number of project staff working on-site ranged between 20 and 30 thousand workers representing teams from several different contractors and subcontractors. Aldar’s Health, Safety and Environmental criteria, which are based on accredited international standards and best-practice, include constant training and skill development workshops for HSE managers and staff, regular HSE inspections and observation tours, as well as activities like emergency drills and simulations to ensure vigilance and preparedness.
