(2 September 2012)

Royal Jet, the Abu Dhabi-based international private jetoperator, evacuated five seriously injured victims to Abu Dhabi for emergency treatment today from the latest fatal road accident in Oman. The accident involved a total of nine casualties.

The Royal Jet Medevac service has now provided emergency evacuation for the victims of three separate fatal road accidents in Oman over the past week on the orders of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It was deployed initially to evacuate the seriously injured wife of the Al-Kaabi familyfrom Al Ain City following an accident last Monday that killed her husband and their six children.

A second aircraft provided by the military and assisted by Royal Jet’s medical crew was used to repatriate the bodies of the deceased from that accident. Following initial treatment in the UAE, the injured mother may be flown by to Germany later this week for further specialist treatment.

Royal Jet Medevac aircraft were also used to evacuatethree victims of a third serious Oman road accident to the UAE during the week.

“We are always on standby to fly people in need of emergency medical treatment anywhere in the world and we are proud to be able to respond immediately to the urgent needs of the UAE,” said Shane O’Hare, President and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Jet. “But to have to conduct three medical evacuations within a week from such tragic road accidents in Oman is a matter of enormous sadness for everyone here. We extend our deepest sympathy to the families and loved ones of the deceased and injured.”

Royal Jet ischaired by His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan. ItsMedevac unit completed its most challenging medical evacuation mission in March this year when it flew 31 Chinese workers injured in explosions in the Republic of Congo to China. That incident in an arms depot in Brazzaville claimed more than 200 lives and injured over 1,500. The Medevac unit flew 192 missions with 309 patients in 2011 in its fleet of Gulfstream, Learjet and Boeing Business Jet aircraft.
