A committee to sight the crescent moon that marks the beginning of the holy month of Shawaal for the year 1433 H in the UAE was set up on Monday under a ministerial decree by Justice Minister Dr Hadef Jua an Al Daheri.
The minister himself will chair the committee with senior Awqaf (endowments) officials, judiciary officials, religious counselors and members of the astronomical society as members.
The verification body affiliated with the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department will follow up the sighting of the moon in the central, eastern and western regions of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The resolution urged all Sharia courts in the country to participate in the moon sighting and update the committee on their sightings while meeting after Maghreb prayer (sunset) on Friday, 29th Ramadan 1433 (17th August 2012) at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
