Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) has finalised the preliminary design of the ‘Family Village’ project for orphans.
Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the project is one of the first to be approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed as part of his initiatives during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The concept of the Family Village was selected out of thousands of online submissions invited by the Ruler of Dubai. The proposals outlined the best initiatives that could be put forward and adopted during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
His Excellency Tayeb Abdulrahman Al Rais, Secretary General, AMAF said: "As per the preliminary design, ‘Family Village’ will consist of around 12 villas, each of which will accommodate 10 children. The village will also feature a fully equipped nursery for children under three years old, along with a kindergarten, an integrated recreational area and emergency medical facilities with a resident nurse. The main administrative building will be located within the premises of the village to deal with enquiries on a daily basis."
He added: "To ensure the sustainability of the project and provide financial and administrative stability, AMAF, in collaboration with donors, will establish an endowment project in Dubai on the commercial land allocated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed. The proceeds of this endowment will fulfil all the present and future financial needs of the project.”
Al Rais added that the ‘Family Village’ will have full-time care givers and provide “a true home” for around 100 orphans in “a stable and balanced atmosphere”. He also called on all those “with a passion to help orphans in Dubai” to participate in the humanitarian project in an endeavour to help orphans gain equal civic rights as UAE citizens.
