Those thinking of booking a fun-packed getaway to Desert Islands now have the option of hopping on a flight to get there. The nature-based tourism destination, which was developed by Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), has partnered with Rotana Jet to launch a new scheduled air service to Sir Bani Yas Island.
The flight service will commence on June 2nd. It will run three days a week every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi, which is centrally located and easily reachable from most of the capital’s major locations. Guests will be flown to Sir Bani Yas Island in approximately 25 minutes on a 50-seat ERJ-145 by Embraer, the 3rd largest aircraft manufacturer in the world – with single ticket fares starting from just Dhs200 one way for adults and Dhs100 for children under 11. Chartered flights will also be available upon request from Rotana Jet from Abu Dhabi or Dubai.
“The commencement of the first ever scheduled air service to Sir Bani Yas Island to coincide with the launch of the Company’s inaugural UAE domestic operations with our ERJ-145 jets is a critical milestone for Rotana Jet, Abu Dhabi and the UAE.” said the CEO of Rotana Jet, Mr. Philip Markham.
Long known as a unique sanctuary of natural beauty, Sir Bani Yas Island is unlike any other destination in the Arabian Gulf. The island’s exclusive hotel, Desert Islands Resort & Spa, operated by the award-winning Thai group Anantara Resorts & Spas, is a five-star, 64 room beachfront escape. Guests can indulge in the spa with an inspiring range of locally-influenced and Thai treatments, or relax by the swimming pool overlooking the vast expanse of the Arabian Gulf.
Christian Zunk, General Manager of Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara commented: “We are delighted that Rotana Jet is now offering regular flight services to Sir Bani Yas Island, allowing guests to effortlessly escape the hustle and bustle of the city to explore our island retreat and all the wonderful activities it has to offer; from discovering exotic animals in the acclaimed wildlife park, to exploring the island from horse back or relaxing with an indulgent Anantara spa ritual. The 25 minute flight from Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Executive Airport, means guests now have the option to spend less time travelling and more time discovering Desert Islands.” For outdoor and sports enthusiasts there are a range of activities including: nature and wildlife drives to the Arabian Wildlife Park with thousands of free-roaming indigenous animals; kayaking through mangrove forests; snorkelling in waters rich in marine life; an archery range and hiking and mountain biking across the island’s ancient salt domes. In addition, the newly opened Sir Bani Yas Stables now offers guests the opportunity to experience a variety of horseback riding activities and lessons, each tailored to meet individual needs and abilities.
Established in 2010, Rotana Jet operates both executive charter and scheduled airline services. Rotana Jet continues to set service standard benchmarks in terms of safety, quality and customer service.
“Rotana Jet is pleased to have been selected by TDIC to provide this air service based on our capabilities and the aircraft. We will work very closely with TDIC and Anantara to develop the operation, and have every confidence that this is simply the beginning of many more exciting developments for Sir Bani Yas Island, the most unique tourism destination in the GCC” added Markham.
