Abu Dhabi To Host GCCs IAEA Seminar On Safety In The Nuclear Industry
(24 March 2011)
Five-day regional seminar to focus on international best practice in nuclear safety, security, and safeguards

Today the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA), announced that under the patronage of His Excellency Staff Brigadier Pilot Sheikh Ahmad Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan Chairman of the CNIA, Abu Dhabi will host the five day International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regional seminar, on the implementation of legislation of nuclear security from 30 May to 3 June.

Hosted in partnership with the CNIA, Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), this IAEA seminar will offer delegates from across the GCC the opportunity to explore international best practices and provisions for nuclear safety legislation. Delegates will participate in a series of lectures, workshops and discussions outlining the IAEA requirements and recommendations in the area of nuclear safety and their application, as well as participating in in-depth information presentations on the international instruments and synergies between safety, security and safeguards.

This IAEA seminar marks the second high profile international event to be hosted in Abu Dhabi, and has come about as a result of the strong working relationship that the UAE’s nuclear energy community has built with its international peers, the IAEA. New to this close working relationship between IAEA, FANR and ENEC; the CNIA, charged with protecting critical infrastructure in Abu Dhabi; are committed to supporting the delivery of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear power program, with particular emphasis on safety, security and non-proliferation.

The five day seminar will be located at Abu Dhabi’s Intercontinental Hotel, and will welcome over 80 delegates from across the GCC. For more information about the conference, or the UAE’s civil nuclear energy program, please visit http://www.iaea.org/, http://www.fanr.gov.ae, and http://www.enec.gov.ae/
