Female Students Of ALHOSN University Develop Computerized Petrol Distribution Model For ADNOC
(17 July 2012)
Industrial Engineering Project optimizes logistics, reduces CO2 emissions

ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality, value-based education, has announced that female students of its Industrial Engineering Department have developed a prototype logistical support system for ADNOC petrol stations. The computerized model optimizes supply and service operations while minimizing environmental impact.

If implemented, the system will help raise ADNOC’s profits by increasing petroleum quantities and reducing the distances traveled by the company’s distribution trucks. ADNOC employees can decide on the product quantities to be delivered and the best transport routes to generate the least expense by referring to the consumption index for each product sold and other data generated by the proposed logistics solution. The optimized distribution also leads to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The project was presented along with other graduation projects during the annual Open Day organized recently by ALHOSN’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences. It was developed by Ibtisam Ahmad, Nimah Fayez, Maryam Ahmad and Walaa Awad under the supervision of Prof. Samir El Dessouky and Engineer Omar Awni, members of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at ALHOSN University.

“We would like to thank the ADNOC Distribution Company for believing in our female students and helping ensure the great success of this project. This undertaking reflects the importance of collaboration between industry and academe in coming up with research and solutions that benefit the community. I would also like to commend the members of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering for bringing out the best in our students, especially our female prodigies whom we encourage to shine in fields that are traditionally associated with men,” said Prof. Abdul Rahim Sabouni, Vice Chancellor and CEO, ALHOSN University.

Named after Abu Dhabi’s historic ALHOSN Palace, ALHOSN University was founded in 2005 by the Abu Dhabi Holding Company in response to growing local demand for high-quality, value-based educational institutions. It currently offers 12 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs under the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences. ALHOSN accepts students of all nationalities and also accommodates youths with special needs. All its programs are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
