Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) today announced it had welcomed around 870,000 passengers at Abu Dhabi International Airport during the month of February, recording an 8% jump over last year’s figure. Aircraft movement has also registered 5.8% increase with 9,000 aircraft movements in the same month.
The traffic report for the month of February 2011 released by ADAC today showed that cargo shipment figures had a sharp rise of 20% in comparison to last year, with the airport handling 37,867 tonnes of cargo, mainly due to the expansion of Etihad Airways’ cargo operations.
Ahmed Al Haddabi, Senior Vice President Airports Operations at ADAC commented:
“February proved to be a good month for Abu Dhabi International Airport, welcoming the new services of V Australia and additional frequencies for our other airline partners. All segments continue to grow, despite the impact of the unrest in certain countries. At the same time, our refurbishment project in Terminal 1 is continuing on schedule, further improving the product and services to both airlines and passengers.”
Bangkok, London, Doha, Manila and Frankfurt took the lead as the top five destinations during February. Cairo, previously one of Abu Dhabi International Airport most busy routes, has recorded sharp decline in its traffic numbers with -34% decrease registered in February 2011 compared with February 2010, due to the recent upheavals in Egypt.
The traffic report also indicated that Far East, Middle East and Europe were the leading regions in generating traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
