Tom Wright, Cathay Pacific General Manager Middle East, India, Africa, Pakistan said: “Cathay Pacific will be the only airline operating non-stop to Hong Kong from Abu Dhabi and we are pleased to get our latest service off to a good start with these very attractive fares. The timing of the flights, with an evening departure from Abu Dhabi and an early morning arrival back from Hong Kong, will be popular amongst business travellers and holiday-makers alike.

“In the cabin we will offer our state-of-the-art products featuring a flat bed in Business Class, a fixed-back shell seat in Economy Class and full audio and video on demand in all classes. These will be complemented by our cabin crew’s renowned ‘Service Straight from the Heart’ which we believe differentiates us from other airlines and makes Cathay Pacific the carrier of choice.”

The four-times-weekly service will be operated by wide-body Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft. The flight schedule provides passengers from the UAE and other parts of the Middle East with the benefit of smooth connectivity through Hong Kong to a number of major countries and territories including Mainland China, the Philippines, Korea, Japan and Taiwan in Asia, and Australia and New Zealand in the Southwest Pacific region.

Representatives from the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), Cathay Pacific’s General Sales Agent Safar Travel & Tourism of Al Fahim Group and the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) were amongst the representatives who gathered today to welcome the new Cathay Pacific non-stop service between Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong.

Speaking at event, George Karamanos, Vice President Corporate Marketing and Communications, Abu Dhabi Airports Company, said: “The addition of Cathay Pacific flights connecting Hong Kong directly to Abu Dhabi provides local communities in both countries numerous opportunities for business, tourism and trade. Abu Dhabi International Airport is delighted to welcome Cathay Pacific in its airline family ahead of the peak travel season this summer, offering passengers seamless access to more destinations in China and across the Asia Pacific region.”

Dayne Lim, Promotions Director, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, commented: “Cathay Pacific’s service brings us much closer to the very important Chinese market with passengers from 17 destinations in Mainland China now having easy air access to Abu Dhabi through the network of Cathay Pacific’s sister airline, Dragonair. This is a network we wish to proactively leverage as we continue our plans to attract an increasing number of visitors from Mainland China.”

Rashed Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, Managing Director of Al Fahim Group said: “We enjoy a strong relationship with Cathay Pacific as we have been working together for more than 30 years and have celebrated many achievements. We are especially proud to join the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the Abu Dhabi Airports Company and Hong Kong Tourism Board for this milestone event. As Hong Kong is one of the most dynamic economies in Asia, we look forward to witnessing the positive impact these direct flights will have on Abu Dhabi.”

Trevor Owen, General Manager – Middle East Representation, Hong Kong Tourism Board, added: “The launch is definitely at an opportune time to boost visitor arrivals from the UAE to Hong Kong in view of the upcoming key summer travel window. A series of joint promotions will be rolled out with Cathay Pacific to increase awareness of Hong Kong as a key destination and a major stopover point to connect with the Pearl River Delta region.”

Cathay Pacific has been serving the United Arab Emirates for more than 30 years and currently offers a double-daily operation to and from Dubai. The airline has won numerous major awards, most recently being voted “Favourite Business Airline” in the 2010 Readers’ Travel Awards organised by Condé Nast Traveller magazine.
