The Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS), the training arm of Abu Dhabi Airports Company, represented officially the Middle East region in the annual IATA Training Partner Congress that was held on 15th & 16th May in Istanbul, Turkey. This representation follows GCAS’s aim to create sustainability and long-standing business relationship towards developing the human capital for tomorrow’s air transport industry. This announcement comes during GCAS’ current participation in the Airport Show in Dubai.

The congress has discussed multitude of topics from current operations to vision of the future with a focus that was designed to continue the engagement between IATA Training and Development Institute (ITDI) and IATA authorized training partners worldwide. GCAS is a regional training partner of IATA that is nurturing the growth in aviation trainings with specific focus on the Middle East region. The centre was representing the whole aviation training community in the Middle East region at the leading industry congress.

ITDI used the congress as a platform to drive further effective working relationship among all training partners worldwide, and to share best practices from each respective market, whilst exchange ideas on emerging trends and opportunities in the travel & tourism, aviation, and cargo areas. The congress consisted of 2 panels, a European panel and Middle East & Africa regions panel which was divided into 2 sub panels: African region, and the Middle East-represented by GCAS.

Khalid Al Breiki, Deputy General Manager of GCAS commented: “The representation of the entire Middle East region in the IATA Training Partner Congress by GCAS is an international acknowledgment of the dynamic role that the centre is actively playing in the development of the aviation and airport industry in the region, and confirms its position as a leading aviation training organization worldwide”.

GCAS took an active part in the congress to share experience in the phased approach in Standardized Training Programs (STP) and outline the centre’s comprehensive training portfolio in aviation and airports, as well as shedding the light on the latest developments within the region. The centre shared its methods in attracting human capital and youth to the aviation industry through various tools and activities including approaching outreach programs at local universities and colleges.

GCAS presented a discussion on the recovery of economy and the aviation industry in the region and outlined the issues presented at the Global Aerospace Summit held in Abu Dhabi in April this year including the necessity for human capital development and the know-how within the aviation and airport industry. The centre addressed the learning needs of the next generation; the transformation of teaching methodologies from traditional to advanced utilizing high tech tools to accommodate the requirements and expectations of the youth and to be on par with the fast development witnessed within the aviation industry in the region and internationally. GCAS also gave a recount on its award winning track record in attaining accreditation from local, national and international authorities.

Through its participation in this annual congress, GCAS was exposed to the offerings of international training providers in partnership with leading universities such as Stanford and Harvard and understand their methods in attracting youth to the industry.

IATA represents 238 member airlines from over 120 countries that carry 93% of the world’s scheduled international air traffic. The organization provides a powerful, unified and experienced voice to support and promote its member airlines’ operations and aspirations.
