Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority organises sustainability exhibition Eco Future
(8 July 2012)

Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority has announced Eco Future, a family focused exhibition that explores how we are all able to survive on a changing planet. It will open from 27 September 2012 at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island and run for a year.

In this thought-provoking, interactive exhibition, visitors will engage with some of the most important issues facing humans today, including global resources, healthy living, climate change and other options for a sustainable future.

They will learn about what we need to survive and will be able to make some choices about the future considering life in Abu Dhabi in 20 or even 40 years time.

His Excellency Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General, TCA Abu Dhabi, said, "Eco Future is inspired by the future plans and projects of Abu Dhabi, some of which are already underway. Just as the decisions made by people now, impact the future of the capital, visitors will learn how different choices based on our priorities can have major effects on tomorrow’s world. One of TCA Abu Dhabi’s goals is to be a leading and sustainable tourism destination so we open this exhibition to coincide with United Nations’ World Tourism Day."

The exhibition is divided into six sections including Drinking, Eating, Enjoying, Moving, Building and Future City, which all look at how changing climates and resources could affect people’s lives. The journey through the exhibition will be guided by four lively characters - Yas, Moza, Ali and Sara. With them, visitors will explore new places to find water for a future city, will sit down to eat with other visitors and trade food for dinner, explore shopping in the future, check out new vehicle technologies in a racing game and even design their future Abu Dhabi homes. The result of visitors’ decisions will be revealed in the Future City at the end of the exhibition.

Presented by TCA Abu Dhabi, Eco Future was developed in close collaboration with expertise from Abu Dhabi entities including Masdar, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Urban Planning Council, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, Emirates Wildlife Society and Tourism Development & Investment Company. Its aim is to educate younger generations on key factors for a sustainable future and to promote engagement with environmental and health issues with a learning experience that is interactive, educational and fun.

As with all the exhibitions in the Saadiyat Cultural District, it will be supported by a diverse public programme.
