ADAC Air Navigation SystemsSigns MoU with Quovadis to ReduceFuel Emissions
(12 March 2012)
ADAC ANS takes air navigation services at Al Bateen Executive Airport to new heights

Abu Dhabi Airports Company’s (ADAC) Air Navigation Services (ANS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Quovadis, a leading airspace design company and Airbus subsidiary, during Abu Dhabi Air Expo at Al Bateen Executive Airport last week. Based on this MOU, Quovadis will design new Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STARs) and Required Navigation Performance Authorization Required (RNP-AR) approaches for Al Bateen Executive Airport. The agreement was signed by Nasser Juma, VP ANS at ADAC, and Mr. Don Jacques Ould-Ferhat, Head of Operations from Quovadis.

The new procedures are part of the performance based navigation (PBN) airspace concept being promoted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for their significant importance in reducing the environmental impact of fuel consumption and resulting emissions.

Nasser Juma, Vice President Air Navigation Systemsat ADAC, said:
“ADAC is eager to continue with its plans in developing services and infrastructures at all of its airports, and today’s agreement with Quovadis, a long-time partner, will enable Al Bateen Executive Airport to offer the most efficient and sustainable air navigation services to its customers.”

Quovadis has been working with ADAC and Etihad Airways to redesign STARs and RNP-ARs for Abu Dhabi International Airport which will be completed in July 2012.

The agreement is aimed at using efficient Constant Descent Operations (CDOs) and state of the art equipment to reduce miles flown by aircraft flying to the airport. Once the new designs are completed and adapted, Al Bateen Executive Airport will be enabled to operate arrivals and departures independent of Abu Dhabi International Airport, increasing the airport’s capacity and flexibility and ensuring an efficient air space for years to come.
