Guests of Etihad Airways holding a boarding pass from December or January flights will receive complimentary admission to see the biggest names in golf playing in Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and Etihad Airways have partnered to offer guests of the airline free access to the event, which runs from January 26 to January 29, 2012.
Guests may present their boarding pass at the gate of the Championship on any given day to gain free entry and the opportunity to see the strongest field ever assembled at a Middle East golf tournament.
German Martin Kaymer will be back to defend his title and will take on the top players in the world, including world number one Luke Donald, Major winners Charl Schwartzel (US Masters), Rory McIlroy (US Open) and Darren Clarke (British Open), along with former world number ones Lee Westwood and Tiger Woods.
Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, said: “The Championship is now positioned as one of the leading sporting events in the Middle East and we are very pleased to be offering our guests the opportunity to see the game’s best players right on our own doorstep.
“With the incredible line-up the Championship organizers have announced, we are expecting a huge amount of interest in this promotion. The chance to see these players for free is no doubt going to be an offer too good to miss for many golf fans.”
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is a European PGA Tour-sanctioned event, with a US$2.7 million prize fund on offer, making it the richest purse in the region.
Launching under ‘The GIANTS of golf are coming’, organizers have revealed an improved program of entertainment and events in the expanded Championship Village.
Peter German, Tournament Director, said: “The partnership with Etihad is another example of the exciting improvements and additional benefits we are offering fans ahead of and during the 2012 event. Etihad has been a long-time supporter of the Championship and this promotion is a way of taking it to a wider audience and hopefully not only attracting golf lovers but also those who are just looking for a wonderful day out.”
The 2011 event saw 40,000 spectators attend, up 20 per cent on 2010 figures, and initial reaction to the 2012 player line-up is expected to bring record crowds when the Championship tees off at the famous National Course at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
The Championship Village has been expanded to 1,200m² and provides a fantastic range of attractions, prizes, games, competitions, live performances and family-friendly fun. Fans will also be able to enjoy the popular HSBC Interactive Zone.
