His Excellency Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda,visited Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s multifaceted renewable energy company, on 12 November to receive a brief on the efforts of the UAE, particularly Abu Dhabi, to develop renewable energy solutions and clean technology.
His Excellency Paul Kagame and the accompanying delegation took a tour of the Masdar City and Masdar Institute for Science and Technology. During the visit, they were provided with a comprehensive overview of Masdar’s objectives and the projects that are being implemented within the country and around the world.
His Excellency took a ride in one of the Personal Rapid Transit, a zero-carbon driverless vehicle. Upon arrival at the Masdar Institute station, he was provided with a comprehensive display of the objective of establishing Masdar as a long-term and multi-faceted strategic initiative.
The presentation covered all aspects of the value chain in the renewable energy sector including education, researches and development, investment in clean technology, implementing projects of generating renewable energy, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and building Masdar City to be one of the most sustainable cities in the world and act as a global hub for leading companies in technology and advanced innovations sectors.
During his visit, His Excellency signed the electronic guestbook and toured the advanced laboratories where the students of Masdar Institute carry out cutting-edge researches. He also visited the modern wind tower, which cools the main yard of Masdar Institute by using water spray to bring cooling breezes down. The wind tower was inspired by “barjeel”, the traditional cooling system in the traditional Emirati houses. His Excellency also visited the solar photovoltaic plant which supplies Masdar with the needed electricity to run its day to day operations. The surplus electricity produced by the solar photovoltaic plant is transferred to Abu Dhabi’s electrical grid.
His Excellency President Paul Kagamesaid: "I was delighted to visit Masdar and experience first-hand the development and progress the company has achieved over the past few years. It is clear that the Masdar’s progress in the renewable and sustainable energy field will not only benefit the region but the entire world."

His visit contributes in familiarizing the world with the progress achieved by UAE in the field of renewable energy and clean technology. And in line with the directions of the Emirati leadership, we welcome exploring areas of possible collaboration with the like-minded countries. Such partnerships will encourage the global efforts aiming to secure the energy security, achieve sustainable development, and develop solutions to mitigate climate change.”
His Excellency also visited the pilot projects being tested at Masdar City, including the beam down project, the testing area of the photovoltaic panels in desert climate conditions, and the cooling system by thermal absorption.
