Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, said: “This visit is a true testament to the hands-on approach adopted by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. His continued support is one of the main reasons behind Masdar’s worldwide recognition in the renewable energy and sustainable development spheres; and the success of the strategic initiatives undertaken by the leadership to ensure the progressive development of the country.
He added: “This tangible progress that Masdar has achieved, over the past 5 years, would not have been possible had it not been for the far reaching vision of His Highness the President and the diligent follow up of His Highness the Crown Prince. the Masdar initiative was established to develop and implement renewable energy and clean technology solutions. We have achieved very important steps on this front – whereby with each year, the UAE’s renewable energy and clean technology profile is increasing globally. But regardless of this great progress, we still have a lot to achieve – Masdar’s goals are based on a long-term strategy and we stand ready to continue our efforts to realize the wise and visionary goals of our leadership. We aim to ensure that renewable energy is a main component of our country’s energy diversification plans. This visit of His Highness today instills in us more national confidence and pride – which will serve to intensify our efforts towards reaching our goals.”
Al Jaber explained that the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology is the first research-driven institute in the region. He emphasized that His Highnesses’ continued keen interest in nurturing the education of local talent, in line with the best academic standards and practices , reflects Abu Dhabi’s focus on developing future generations and transforming them from importers to exporters of knowledge. He also explained that education will nurture the spirit of healthy competition both locally and internationally.
Dr. Fred Movenzadeh, President of the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology said: “The visit of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has given us great incentive to exert even more effort and continue our mission of providing a nurturing environment for research, technology and innovation. It has also encouraged us to increase our efforts towards the development of human capital, preparing the necessary expertise, and supporting enhanced knowledge in the nation.”
The visit by His Highness also encompassed a tour to the Masdar field testing station where various breakthrough technologies are being tested, including the performance of specially coated solar photovoltaic modules, in collaboration with The United States Department of Energy (DOE); the beam down’ technology in cooperation with Japanese partners; and the 10 MW solar power plant that provides the energy needs for all the current buildings and construction activities at Masdar.
