The event will be held from 10.00am-5.00pm on Friday, 29 April at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology campus at Masdar City. Entry is free.

 

“Masdar City, a living example of Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainable living, is open to the public,” said Alan Frost, Director of Masdar City. “We encourage people to come and experience Masdar City and participate in a historic development that demonstrates what urban eco-living can be like.

We are contributing to the realization of that vision through our work here at Masdar City, and so we see The Market @ Masdar City providing people an opportunity to see some elements of what a sustainable Abu Dhabi in the future could be like,” added Frost. 

 

The Market @ Masdar City will feature organic foods and products, spa services, other retail and restaurant booths, as well as Masdar City’s existing restaurants, shops and cafes, which include Organic Foods and Café, Caribou Coffee and Sumo Sushi & Bento. 

 

The fair will have a raffle draw with prizes, while younger visitors will be entertained with screenings of children’s films, workshops for kids, games, balloonists, handicrafts, henna designs and face painting, as well as live performances from entertainers, magicians and bubble makers. 

 

Visitors will also be able to explore one of the most exciting aspects of the day, which is a chance to ride the futuristic, driver-less Public Rapid Transit (PRT) vehicles. At the touch of a button, these electric-powered cars will carry visitors between the parking lot and the fair location at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology campus, located in the heart of Masdar City. 

 

The city’s architectural layout, which employs a pleasing blend of the contemporary and the traditional Arabian, employs features such as narrow streets, shaded sidewalks and colonnades, which result in a naturally cooler outdoor environment. Masdar City’s ‘green’ landmarks, including the prominent Wind Tower and softly angled Knowledge Centre are other attractions that are now open to visitors.

 

The Market @ Masdar City will run as a monthly event, except from May to September.
