Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s multi-faceted initiative advancing the development and deployment of renewable energy and clean technologies, announced it has entered into an agreement with the Environment Agency–Abu Dhabi (EAD) to build collaboration in support of Abu Dhabi’s climate change and sustainable development vision and goals. The organizations will cooperate across areas of policy and regulation development, education and outreach, as well as other initiatives addressing the environmental protection objectives of the emirate.
Potential opportunities for collaboration between Masdar and EAD include advancing policies for waste management of construction and building operations, as well as establishing more regulations to protect the Emirate’s biodiversity in the face of rapid development.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar, said: “Masdar and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi share a vision for a sustainable future of Abu Dhabi, and we believe that the information-sharing and collective decision-making resulting from this partnership will benefit the government, businesses and people of our emirate. We look forward to exploring the synergies and opportunities that will strengthen EAD’s efforts to make environmental conservation and sustainable growth a priority for the future of Abu Dhabi.
“Working closely with EAD further demonstrates Masdar’s ever-increasing role – in Abu Dhabi and around the world – as an important partner and catalyst of sustainable solutions," added Dr. Al Jaber.
H.E. Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Secretary General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi added: “As Abu Dhabi continues to develop, it is critical that we have an effective and scientifically-grounded environmental policy framework. This will help ensure that economic growth provides the desired benefits without damaging Abu Dhabi’s natural heritage and long-term future prospects. It is only through working in partnerships, such as this one with Masdar, that we can build the local capacity needed to achieve our shared aim of a sustainable society.”
A working group and steering committee will be set up to establish the specific goals for the partnership, ensuring the successful implementation of the areas of collaboration.
