Over 2,000 UAE Students Invited By Masdar To Attend World Future Energy Summit
(18 January 2011)
Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy initiative encourages UAE schools and universities to send students to showpiece industry event

Over 2,000 students from more than 60 schools and universities across the UAE have been invited by Masdar to attend the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi. The participation of students in the showpiece industry event for the renewable energy and clean technology will raise awareness of climate change issues amongst the younger generation.

Three separate groups of approximately 800 students will attend WFES from 18-20 January. During the two hour visits students will be escorted by specially-trained youth volunteers through the pavilions at the three segments – ‘Renewable Energy’, ‘Energy Smart Technology’ and ‘Environment’, fitting into the theme of this year’s Summit “Enabling future energy solutions – finding practical answers to the energy security global challenge”.

Organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, WFES 2011 – the world’s largest conference and exhibition on renewable and future energy solutions – will be held from 17-20 January at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

As the biggest platform for companies and countries to showcase their latest projects and technologies in renewable energy, WFES also helps youth in the UAE gain access to some of the biggest names in industry that implement projects similar to Masdar. More than 20,000 delegates are expected to attend the summit and the exhibitions.

Focusing on renewable and future energy solutions, innovations, investments, policy and vision, WFES 2011 will cover a wide range of themes including energy policy, investment and funding, green buildings, clean transport, solar, wind and biofuels.

“We are organising this visit as part of the Masdar Outreach Program. We believe giving students access to the biggest global platform for the renewable energy and clean technology industry, will help raise awareness about issues such as climate change,” said Aida Al Busaidy, Internal Communications Manager Community Outreach at Masdar. “Through the Masdar Institute and Young Future Energy Leaders, an initiative led by Masdar Institute, we have always made a strong commitment to engaging with and nurturing the next generation of talent in the field of renewable energy and clean technology.”

“The students visiting WFES will have the opportunity to learn about the solutions to climate change that are being developed by Masdar and many others. We hope this visit to WFES will inspire the students to develop these solutions in the future,” Aida Al Busaidy added.

The invitation is still open to all UAE schools and universities. If you are interested in attending WFES, please email youth@masdar.ae for more information.
