(23 November 2010)

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) congratulated exhibitors and supporters today at the success of the Building Future Education MENA Conference and BETT Middle East Conference and Exhibition. BFE MENA has attracted 83 exhibitors this year compared to 37 exhibitors last year, marking an increase of 124 percent. BETT Middle East attracted 98 exhibitors from all over the world.

H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamil Al-Khaili, Director General of ADEC, emphasized the importance of technology in the education sector and the positive impact it has on children.

“Education practices are constantly evolving with new technologies and modern education tools. Applying these tools to our classrooms allows our students to develop critical analytical skills needed for a global economy,” he said.

At the event, ADEC exhibited its latest school models as well as model designs currently under construction.
The exhibitions drew a range of participants from a number of sectors, including Abu Dhabi government, and specialists in education, construction and design, and technology.

Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Hinai, His Excellency’s consultant for international education cooperation, Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman, presented during the conference on Oman’s endeavor in developing education.

“The exhibition included many services that could be useful in the educational field, at schools and universities alike,” he said. “Several topics of interest to the MENA region were discussed in the conference, such as different education systems, partnerships between private and public sectors in education, and the importance of parental involvement.”

Mr. Rusty Walker, Associate from Holabird & Root a US- based architecture and engineering design company with a focus on higher education, said the conference was well-managed and they are looking forward to returning next year. They plan to expand their involvement in the event next year through participating with an exhibition and presentation.

“Everything over here is growing and the plan is so ambitious, there is so much this country desires to achieve for its citizens,” Walker said. “The commitment of leadership is also exciting, as their drive to build the future of their citizens is so impressive. Many generations will be shaped by the improvements implemented right now.”

Dr. Mohammed Saeed, Provost of Al Hisn University was impressed with the school models and equipment showcased at the exhibition. “I thank the visions and support of our leaders in raising the bar of our education system throughout all aspects,” he said.

Another visitor was Dr. Hassan Ahmed Al Hosany, Principal of August Sixth School. Dr. Hassan enjoyed how the exhibitions displayed learning tools for both theoretical and practical teaching. Dr. Hassan also enjoyed the educational conferences and discussions that take place around the exhibitions. The BETT conference line up featured discussions on: developing a standard for effective use of ICT for learning and teaching; adopting creative printing and imaging solutions in education; AMD’s Changing the Game education program; and teacher training and learning initiatives for entrepreneurs.

Dr. Hassan Musatafa, Head of the Master’s Program at Al Hisn University said, “this is my second time to visit and participated at BFE MENA and BETT Middle East. The discussions and exhibits taking place are very unique and great to see happening in Abu Dhabi. Such as events also reflects ADEC’s keenness on bringing together technology and education.”

ADEC also displayed its contributions towards the World Robotics Olympics (WRO). Abu Dhabi will play host to next year’s international WRO. In light of this, ADEC has provided every school with a LEGO Robot kit and has trained members of school staff to help students build and use the robots. Schools competing have the chance to represent the UAE at next year’s WRO.
