Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the master developer of tourism, cultural, and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi, today announced that it has been appointed operator of Hili Fun City family amusement park in Al Ain. The park is to officially reopen under its new management on the first day of Eid-Al-Fitr.
Hili Fun City has been undergoing extensive renovations since August 2009 when TDIC was appointed to commence a two-phase redevelopment of the park into a major family attraction in the region. TDIC’s movement from just a developer to operator of the park coincides with the completion of phase one, which saw the redevelopment of the western side of the park with the addition of new rides and landscaping.
Mubarak Al Muhairi, Managing Director at TDIC, commented on the announcement, “The development of tourism assets in the Eastern Region is a key focus of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision and Hili Fun City is set to be one of the major tourism attractions to be re built in Al Ain in the next three years. The management of Hili Fun City is therefore important to TDIC’s growing project portfolio.”
Since TDIC began the redevelopment of the park and partially reopened it in November 2009, more than 189,000 people have visited the park, which is a 21% increase on the number of visitors from the previous year. This increase in visitor numbers during the course of phase one of Hili Fun City’s redevelopment has generated a 153 % increase in revenue. The redevelopment of this successful theme park therefore promises long term benefits for the city of Al Ain.
Hili Fun City is expected to attract a record of more than 10,000 visitors a day when it reopens during Eid Al Fitra. Visitors will be thrilled by the addition of new rides for this year including Twister Mountain ,a Sinbad’s Farm and 3D Action Cinema, new landscaping and improved parking and entrance facilities.
Mubarak Al Muhairi continued, “TDIC is aiming to developing Hili Fun City into a premier family theme park. Also, we plan to create new opportunities for local people to work here at all levels.”
Viviane Paturel-Mazot, Senior Manager - Leisure & Hospitality Standards at TDIC and Project Manager of Hili Fun City, added, “Hili Fun City is at a very exciting stage in its development. It has been a favourite among families in the Gulf for many years and the recent enhancement of facilities and the introduction of so many fantastic new rides heralds a new era for the park. With the planning stage of Phase Two of development commencing this month we look forward to continuing to welcome increasing numbers of visitors of all ages for many years to come.”
Located in the ‘Garden City’ of Al Ain, Hili Fun City is a stunning amusement and leisure park. The Gulf’s largest, it is designed to entertain the whole family and welcomes children of all ages to experience the excitement of rides and shows in the surroundings of lush, green landscaped gardens.
During Phase One of Hili Fun City’s redevelopment TDIC fully renovated all facilities, successfully launched seven new attractions and renovated 21 attractions in the western side of the park. Phase Two will redevelop the eastern side. The first stage of development for Phase Two – the Master Plan and Concept Design stage – will officially commence on September 14th with TDIC as operator and developer. In addition to the introduction of exciting new rides, this phase will include the renovation and integration into the park of the Olympic Size Ice Rink.
