Engineer Abdullah Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Municipal Infrastructure and Assets Sector, said: "Winning this Award by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City speaks volumes of the Municipality’s efforts to safeguard resources and attain sustainable development. Scada System, which monitors the distribution as well as the quality of water, is one of the unique systems capable of improving the performance of the water systems, and bringing about better control of pumping and irrigation process, among other vital activities undertaken in the water sector.
"The system, which will shortly be inaugurated by the Municipality in the irrigation processes inside and outside Abu Dhabi Island, will be functioning over two phases; Phase I starts by the production and distribution of water in the dedicated networks and pipes. It also includes monitoring the water pressure and flow, physical monitoring and prevention of water wastage, detecting the operation faults and technical issues experienced by networks, pinpointing faulty locations, and directing emergency teams to such locations for carrying out the required maintenance jobs.
"Phase II revolves around the physical control of water leakage as well as sealing and controlling leakages in a way that contributes to rationalizing the uses of irrigation water, and creating an effective strategic management of water resources in terms of irrigation and rainwater drainage in a way that meets the objectives of the Municipality towards achieving optimal utilization of water resources.
"Scada system is run in line with GSM communication technology with a view to achieving the highest standards of performance, immediate response to emergencies and maintenance requirements, and figuring out solutions and instant options for any problems obstructing the performance of the network, water tanks or irrigation stations. The system is also compatible with the principles of sustainability as its prescribed lifetime is estimated to exceed 20 years during which it maintains high operational efficiency," added Al Shamsi.
The system is characterized by its high capacity to accommodate the new requirements and extensions as well as interfacing with the new and updated programs and applications, besides carrying out an accurate listing of water leakage and waste between subsidiary carrier and distributing networks by means of providing accurate registrations and readings of the water flow, network operational pressure, graphical representations, and field and environmental sensors capable of identifying and controlling the amounts of water wasted through arbitrary connections as well as locating and stopping them; which ultimately leads to saving large quantities of water, and improving the overall performance of the network.
It is worth-mentioning that the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has recently scooped several awards including Arab Towns Greens Award, and Best Website Award in addition to this Scada Project Award. ITP Group, which runs the contest, is one of the leading independent agencies in his line of business. It was established in Dubai in 1987 and its scope covers various fields such as publishing, information technology, customer care, and consumer care. ITP annually holds tens of exhibitions, conventions and contests; which are judged by expert panels of global judges and specialists in the respective filed of each contest.
