The Middle East IT Services Market On The Rise
(5 May 2010)

NIIT Technologies, India’s leading IT solutions organisation, has announced its participation in the 5th annual CIO Strategies Mid-East Congress from May 12th – 13th, 2010 at Yas Island Rotana in Abu Dhabi.

The congress will tackle key issues faced by today’s CIOs and provide insights on how to expand business as well as technology and leadership capabilities. In addition to identifying global trends within key industry sectors, CIO Strategies Mid-East will focus on keeping costs down as the world emerges from the economic crisis.

Arvind Mehrotra, EVP and head of global strategic initiatives at NIIT Technologies confirmed the organisation’s participation as he explained, “It is imperative for CIOs to improve efficiency and profitability whilst reducing costs. Doing more with less is the top priority on a CIOs agenda right now as technology becomes increasingly important in achieving these objectives.”

The congress comes at an ideal time for anyone in the IT industry hoping to source opportunities. Following the opening up of large previously inaccessible markets to ensure phenomenal growth rates, the Middle East IT services market is expected to hit US$3.5 billion by 2011, according to a recent report by the Economist Intelligence Unit. This, combined with more companies in the region becoming interested in deploying high-end technology to gain competitive advantage, has led to predictions that the UAE IT services market alone will grow by 13 percent to reach US$1 billion in the same period.

With these prospects around the corner, Mehrotra emphasised, “At NIIT Technologies, we have invested significantly in developing innovative approaches for technology adoption at Government and Corporate organizations globally for over two decades which have yielded in business impacting benefits for our clients. This congress will hold the CIO community in good stead by equipping them with relevant information and knowledge to help them develop better and more efficient business models.”

Mehrotra added, “CIO Strategies Mid-East, with its impressive line-up of confirmed speakers and participants from multiple verticals in the Middle East region, is the ideal place for NIIT to connect with the regional CIO community, and increase our presence.”

In March NIIT publicised it’s strategic tie-up with Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS) to globally market the COSYS-IS cargo ground handling solution and most recently its customer win to develop, implement and maintain the state-of-the-art cargo operations system at Tan Son Nhat International airport in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to similar services for PT JAS for the Jakarta, Bali & Surabaya Airports. These two announcements came hot on the heels of reports late last year of a lucrative partnership between NIIT Technologies and Hitachi to offer cloud computing services in Japan. The company is hoping the CIO Strategies Mid-East will provide the perfect platform to launch their next step for expansion into the Middle East.

“With this congress focused on the needs of CIOs throughout the Middle East region, we aim to give IT leaders further means to explore the challenges facing the industry today and expand their strategies accordingly.”
Explained Rissa Rosmawati, Project Director at naseba.

The congress will feature keynote speeches and interactive discussions led by regional IT figureheads.
The congress’ organiser, business information group, naseba has already confirmed respected regional speakers to include Johnathan Chapman, CIO for Georgetown University, Qatar; Dr. Hashem Al Refai, Former Director General, eGovernment Authority of Ras Al Khaimah (UAE); Ahmad Almulla, Vice President of IT for Dubai Aluminium Company; Emad Khatib, CIO, Emcredit Ltd and Sherif Mansour, CIO, Tamweel PJSC.
