United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) today drew on global health experts to discuss the spread of international Pandemics.
Attendees at the Global Health and the UAE: Asia-Middle East Connections conference, listened to leading international healthcare professionals and academics discussing the latest research findings on the spread and control of pandemics.
Guest speakers included Dr Vittoria Colizza, from the Institute of Scientific Interchange, whose work has changed the way pandemics are now monitored, and Dr Cliff Webster, Chief Medical Adviser, Emirates Airline.
Dr Abdullah Al-Khanbashi, Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, said: "We are delighted to bring this topic to the fore and facilitate the exchange of the latest research in this field. As a result of the work caried out by Dr Vittoria Colizza, for the first time in history we are now able to track the evolution of a pandemic in real time".
"This will enable us to observe patterns, predict scenarios and develop possible intervention strategies, helping to shed light on how epidemics are spread and how we might control them. It is testament to the growing reputation of this University that we are able to attract speakers of this calibre and demonstrates our commitment to being a first-class 21st century research university", he added.
