The sailing teams began their preparations yesterday ahead of their divisioning rounds for Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.
Host nation, the UAE, and more than 10 other nations took to the waters at Abu Dhabi Yacht and Sailing Club for a series of practise sessions. The teams will begin divisioning rounds Wednesday and continue on Friday, ahead of the competition on Saturday.
Divisioning allows all athletes participating in any Special Olympics Games the opportunity to compete on an equal playing field. It is a fundamental rule, which matches athletes up with others of the same gender, around the same age, and most importantly of the same competitive ability.
Sailing is one of 24 Olympic-style sports that will take place during Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019. More than 7,500 athletes from over 190 nations will be competing in nine venues in Abu Dhabi and Dubai between 14th - 21st March.
