Abu Dhabi International Airport received more than 2.2 million passengers in January, representing a 2.6 percent increase in airport traffic compared with January 2016.
Statistics show India as one of the most popular travel destinations, where recorded travel to and from the state grew by two percent last month compared to January 2016, while the United Kingdom assumed second place as frequent travel destination with a reported growth of 14.1 percent, mainly due to the addition of a third Airbus A380 both inbound and outbound to London.
In addition, traffic to and from Egypt saw a significant growth of 18.4 percent compared to the previous year as a result of Etihad Airways adding four daily flights to the country, as well as the launch of 'Fly Egypt' flights to Alexandria, which have seen 1,904 passengers on board during the month of January alone.
The five cities recording the most passenger traffic from Abu Dhabi International Airport during the month of January 2017 include London with a strong surge of 23 percent, followed by Bangkok with a growth of 2 percent, an increase of 13.0 per cent for Bombay, followed by Doha with a growth of 2 percent, and the city of Jeddah in fifth place at 4 percent.
