Seventy percent of the construction at the Barakah nuclear power plant has been completed, according to a plant official.
Mohamed Al Hammadi, ENEC’s CEO said, "We at ENEC are proud of the progress we have made in the development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program. We are committed to delivering safe, clean, efficient and reliable nuclear energy to power the future growth of the UAE, and we have made substantial progress towards achieving this goal at our Barakah facility.'' "All four units at Barakah are some 70 per cent complete, an amazing achievement, considering that we started construction a mere four years ago. Most recently, we installed Unit 3’s Reactor Vessel, completed the construction of the concrete dome for the Unit 2 Reactor Containment Building, and are progressing steadily through the testing and commissioning phase at Unit 1, where the structural integrity and integrated leak tests were recently completed,''Al Hammadi added .
"We are also are continuously investing in the advancement of a knowledge-based industry in the UAE through our range of education initiatives and by supporting the development of local industrial products and services to international nuclear quality standards. When we started in 2009, the UAE was the first country in 27 years to build nuclear facilities, establishing the Barakah project as a benchmark for all future nuclear projects. All of our employees are proud to be part of the programme, which will deliver low-carbon, sustainable nuclear energy to the UAE" he concluded.
