GE’s ecomagination Center in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, has won the Middle East Interior Design Award 2014 for best outstanding design in the ‘Corporate Space Small’ category.
Designed by AK Design, the ecomagination Center is the first of its kind in the world, and is part of a strategic co-operation agreement signed between GE and Mubadala Development Company. Featuring a range of sustainable features, the Center serves as a model in integrating intelligent design of space and green lifestyle features to promote energy and water use efficiency.
On behalf of Randa Hakim, Senior Program Manager of GE, Global Operation Properties in MENAT, Nadine Malpass and Liliana Momcilovic of AK Design received the award at the Middle East Interior Design Award ceremony held in Dubai.
Randa Hakim said: “The best design honor for our ecomagination Center, opened only in January this year, highlights the clear industry differential that we have brought to our prestigious initiative. The Center reflects our commitment to promote sustainable development in the UAE, and serves as a model in how our ecomagination commitment is put to practice.”
“Our designs reflect what GE aspires all of its facilities to be; collaborative and inspiring, while being fully functional. In such a high profile successful project, detailed design and post contract coordination were key to transforming the brilliant ideas into a beautiful reality, despite our challenging deadline and exceptional expectations,” added Hakim.
Spread over an area of 840 sq m, the GE ecomagination Center presents a unique journey for visitors, highlighting the UAE’s vision for a greener world, the significance of the GE-Mubadala partnership, and the various innovations of GE to secure a cleaner and more efficient energy infrastructure.
It highlights the global energy footprint, the regional and local initiatives to promote energy and water use efficiency with spotlights on the GE technologies that drive water, energy, lighting and transportation efficiency.
The Center showcases GE’s advanced technology solutions and offers training on the challenges and opportunities in advancing energy and water efficiency. It is also a hub for localized innovation that involves all key stakeholders including GE’s partners, educational institutions and the community at large.
The ecomagination Center is located in the Incubator Building, Masdar City’s first commercial property in the heart of the city's research and development cluster.
