To mark Zayed Humanitarian Day (19 Ramadan) and in the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, organised a donation drive for women living at one of the largest labour camp facilities in Abu Dhabi. This year 19 Ramadan corresponds to 17 July.
The initiative, the first organised under Etihad Airways' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 'iVolunteer' program, saw over 50 volunteers from the airline's Abu Dhabi head office visiting the Mohammed bin Zayed City labour camp to deliver special gift packs of fresh fruit, canned food and personal care items.
Volunteers also distributed hot meals to about 330 women labourers in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Cause Connect, a UAE-based community group that is dedicated to increase creative collaboration between causes, communities and companies.
The Etihad Airways Duty Free team recently hosted a merchandise sale at the airline's head office in Abu Dhabi to raise funds and support the donation drive.
Launched by Etihad Airways' CSR department in June 2014, the 'iVolunteer' program is a wide-ranging volunteering initiative that engages staff in community-related activities, supporting the work of local charities across the UAE and in other parts of the world.
The 'iVolunteer' program aims to promote and support a culture of social responsibility and provides a platform for those interested to volunteer in community work. Since the launch, the program has witnessed great success, and in less than two months, has registered over 400 employees from around the airline's global network.
