Etihad Airways Celebrates 10 Years In Germany
(7 June 2014)

This week marks Etihad Airways’ tenth year of operations between Abu Dhabi and Germany.

Flights to Etihad Airways’ first German destination Munich were launched on 5 June 2004. A year later, operations to Frankfurt were added, and in December 2011, services linking Düsseldorf and Abu Dhabi took off.

To date, the UAE flag carrier has flown more than 2.7 million travellers and 300,000 tonnes of cargo on these three routes.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways President and Chief Executive Officer, said:  “Marking 10 years of successful operations between Abu Dhabi and Germany is an historic milestone for Etihad Airways and proof of our passenger and cargo commitment in a key European market.

“In 10 years we have grown our German operations substantially, launched new routes, opened a Premium Lounge in Frankfurt, commenced freighter operations to Frankfurt, unveiled our European and German headquarters in Berlin, and started and cemented our strategic partnership with airberlin.

“Looking ahead, Etihad Airways will continue to develop the German inbound and outbound passenger travel market, facilitate import and export trade, while demonstrating innovation and unparalleled levels of product and service excellence.”

In conjunction with airberlin, Etihad Airways today offers a combined 56 weekly services between four German cities (Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich) and Abu Dhabi, from where guests can connect easily to destinations across the globe.

This will increase to 63 combined flights per week on 1 December 2014 when airberlin commences a daily service between Stuttgart and Abu Dhabi.

Through its Etihad Cargo division, Etihad Airways also offers comprehensive freight services between Germany and Abu Dhabi on its passenger fleet, in addition to three weekly maindeck freighter operations to and from Frankfurt.
