(24 April 2014)

As part of its vision to ‘Be First’ and continue developing and strengthening a pipeline of talented Emirati professionals for the future, First Gulf Bank (FGB), one of the major leading banks in the UAE, showcased career opportunities in the banking and financial sector at Dubai’s Careers UAE 2014 today.

During the career fair, which is being held at Dubai World Trade Centre until April 24, FGB recruiters provided visitors with information about the various training programmes, Emiratisation initiatives and current job opportunities that the bank is offering to attract talented Emiratis to a career in the banking and financial sector. Additionally, FGB employees screened potential candidates and conducted initial interviews during the fair for various vacancies across its departments and training programmes.

The bank also showcased its recently launched Al Masar development initiative, which provides talented Emiratis with fast-track career development opportunities. The 12-month programme has been designed to develop high potential employees and prepare them for the next step in their careers, and offers customised career guidance as well as development opportunities tailored to each participant’s strengths.

FGB successfully met its Emiratisation target for 2013, achieving a rate of 33% by hiring 70 Emiratis throughout the year. The banks is aiming to achieve a rate of 34% by recruiting more than 70 vacancies in 2014.

Abdulrahman Saqr, Senior Vice President of HR and Head of Emiratisation at FGB, said: “FGB is working hard to raise awareness amongst Emiratis about the wide range of career opportunities that are available across the banking and financial sector. We are actively increasing the number of UAE nationals employed at the bank year on year and events like this provide us with an ideal opportunity to meet with Emirati job seekers in person and learn more about their future ambitions as well as the types of roles they are looking for.”

He continued: “In line with our new brand, we are looking to become an employer of choice for Emiratis. Our new identity reflects the bank’s pledge for the future and our commitment to continue attracting and developing employees of the highest calibre. We will continue in our efforts to develop the professional skills of UAE nationals and launch new programmes to encourage existing employees and fresh talent to realise their full potential and ‘Be First”.

FGB has launched a range of programmes specifically designed to enhance the professional skills of Emiratis and prepare them for roles in the banking industry. These include the 18-month Nujoom Management scheme, currently in its third phase, which has been developed to train and qualify fresh graduates to take on managerial positions through real-life work scenarios, guidance and mentoring. FGB also offers its Al Manara and Qudurati schemes, which aid in the ongoing development of the bank’s Emirati employees.

FGB also participated in Sharjah’s National Career Exhibition and Abu Dhabi’s Tawdheef recruitment fair earlier this year. Additionally, the bank boasts its First Gulf Bank Business School, which was launched to enhance the financial and banking skills of its employees and drive its Emiratisation initiatives forward
