GE Lighting (NYSE: GE) is highlighting the the role of LED lighting solutions to support the sustainable lighting strategies of regional governments at the Middle East Smart Lighting & Energy Summit to be held on November 11 & 12, 2013, at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi.
GE Lighting is the Platinum Sponsor of the key industry event that brings together high-level government officials, industry leaders and stakeholders from the entire lighting and construction supply chain to discuss the newest trends in energy-efficient lighting.
George Bou Mitri, GE Lighting’s General Manager of Middle East, Africa and Turkey, will present the keynote address at the Summit, putting the spotlight on the company’s active partnerships across the Middle East region to support sustainable lighting projects.
Bou Mitri said: “GE Lighting has been at the forefront in driving active industry dialogue on the need to adopt sustainable LED lighting solutions that will not only contribute to increased energy efficiency but also minimise any adverse impact on the environment. As the pioneer of LED technologies, we have developed a wide range of indoor and outdoor solutions that are an ideal fit to the requirements of regional governments and private infrastructure owners.”
He added: “The Middle East Smart Lighting & Energy Summit is a key platform that brings together industry stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge in sustainable lighting. With strong credentials in supporting Abu Dhabi Municipality in its outdoor lighting, we will continue to build partnerships to support the Sustainable Public Lighting Strategy announced by Abu Dhabi Municipality. We are also partnering with public and private sector entities across the Middle East region on sustainable lighting solutions.”
From roadway lighting, street lighting, decorative post top lighting, sigh lighting, tunnel lighting and other outdoor solutions, GE has an impressive array of sustainable outdoor lighting solutions, in addition to its aesthetic choice of indoor LED solutions.
The company’s new outdoor LED fitting, LED Area Lighter is the first of many outdoor LED lighting systems GE debuted in 2009. LED Area Lighter provides up to 60% energy savings, longer life and significantly improved light level uniformity compared with traditional HID lamp sources and optical systems.
GE Lighting has also introduced its award-winning ERS LED Scalable Street Lighting range of luminaires to the Middle East region to provide energy efficient roadway lighting. It has a modular LED system starting from 43 watt to 258 watt that meets a wide range of road and street lighting requirements.
The regional governments are taking concerted steps to achieve energy savings through the adoption of sustainable lighting solutions. Abu Dhabi Municipality aims to save nearly AED1.3 billion in street lighting costs, a reduction of 60% in power usage, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 75% and minimising facilities and maintenance works by 40 to 80%.
“Electricity for lighting accounts for nearly 20 per cent of global power consumption and close to 6 per cent of worldwide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Our LED solutions can save up to 70% in energy consumption, and up to 20 per cent in upgraded conventional lighting sources. GE’s LED products are also lead- and mercury-free, which plays a key role in driving environmental sustainability,” added Bou Mitri.
GE Lighting has a rich history in the Middle East having established long-standing business association with over 70 key partners over the past several decades. The company recently clinched a number of new orders across the GCC region, particularly in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, to provide sustainable lighting solutions for hospitals, hotels and street lighting.
With a full-fledged team in the region, GE Lighting has several professionals driving the operations. Its distribution center in Jebel Ali, spanning over 1,375 square meters, serves as strategic hub for the company to further expand its presence in the UAE as well as strengthen exports to key markets in the Middle East and Africa.
