(1 July 2013)
FLASH Entertainment, the region’s premier live events company, in partnership with Mubadala, the strategic investment and development company, today announced that world number 1, Novak Djokovic, will return to Abu Dhabi for the third year running at the 2013 Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
The annual tournament, which sees six of the world’s top players battle it out across three days at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City, has been confirmed for a sixth year and will take place 26th – 28th December 2013. For fans who don’t want to miss out on seeing Novak Djokovic in action, tickets go on sale at midday on Tuesday, July 2nd from www.ticketmaster.ae and 800 TM UAE (86 823). Prices start from AED 50 and all tickets sold before September will be entered into a draw to win a VIP tournament experience including the chance to meet Djokovic at the Official Players’ Reception and an overnight stay at the 5-star Yas Viceroy Hotel.
Making his debut in Abu Dhabi in 2011, Djokovic has never lost a match at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. Across his tournament career, he has seen off stiff competition from some of the world’s best including world number 3, Roger Federer, and world number 4, David Ferrer. Other tournament regulars include world number 2 and current US Open champion, Andy Murray, and eight-time French Open winner, Rafael Nadal.
For the past two years, Djokovic has gone on from his victory in Abu Dhabi to win the Australian Open. Speaking at Wimbledon, where he is playing in the last 16 today against Tommy Haas, Djokovic commented:
“I’m really excited to be coming back to Abu Dhabi this year and it was an easy decision for me to make. The Mubadala World Tennis Championship is proving to be a great way to kick-start my season, and gives me the chance to get warm-weather play in against some of the best guys in tennis ahead of the Australian Open. I’ll be looking to get off to a winning start again in Abu Dhabi later this year. ”
With the full player line-up to be announced later in the year, Djokovic added:
“No doubt I’ll face some tough competition again in December but I’m hungry for the hat trick and I’ll be ready to defend my crown. The crowds in Abu Dhabi always create an amazing atmosphere and I hope to give them a great few days of tennis and entertainment again this year. ”
The world-class action and renowned lively atmosphere on centre court will start from the very first ball on the opening day of the Championship, Thursday 26th December. The unique combination of a ‘winner takes all’ prize of $250,000, the world’s best players and a championship format that from day one is the equivalent of a Grand Slam quarter-final, guarantees explosive performances and attacking tennis with two matches each day to thrill crowds on centre court.
In addition to the sensational displays of tennis, each year the Mubadala World Tennis Championship is packed full of off-court action in Tennis Village, where players can be found coaching tennis clinics, signing autographs and hosting Kids Question Time.
Amina Taher, Head of Community Engagement at Mubadala, the title sponsor of the tournament, added:
“The Mubadala World Tennis Championship gives fans a unique opportunity to interact with the world’s top players both on and off the court, and has proved to be a popular day out for all the family. This year’s event will be no exception and we are looking forward to seeing Tennis Village come alive again in December.”
Tickets for the 2013 Mubadala World Tennis Championship are on from midday on Tuesday, 2nd July at www.ticketmaster.ae or by calling 800 TM UAE (86 823).
