Etihad Airways Hosts International Air Law Moot Court In Abu Dhabi
(13 March 2013)

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, hosted over 60 law students from all over the world as they honed their skills at the Fourth International Air Law Moot Court Competition, held in Abu Dhabi from 9-12 March 2013.

The competition, which is administered by the Leiden University International Institute of Air & Space Law located in the Netherlands, and the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation located in India, is a unique opportunity for students to gain experience in developing and presenting arguments in international law and international air law. The moot court helps students to prepare briefs, examine opposing views, and sharpen their debating skills in the presence of some of the most prominent judges, academia and legal experts in the world. The skills and insights gained are critical to a student’s success. The event also allows students to establish contacts around the world.

Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, said: “Etihad Airways is proud to host the Fourth International Air Law Moot Court in conjunction with the Leiden Institute and the Sarin Foundation.

“The competition plays a vital role in developing some of the best lawyers in international and air law and that concept aligns with Etihad’s goal to be the best airline in the world.

“We actively support programs that develop the skills required by the aviation industry, as reflected in our own very successful Emiratisation program which recruits and trains Emiratis for a variety of rewarding and challenging roles at Etihad Airways.”

As the host airline and principal sponsor, Etihad Airways flew delegates, 35 judges and 60 law students from all over the world to Abu Dhabi.
