Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the master developer of tourism, cultural and residential projects in Abu Dhabi, today was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Municipality of Abu Dhabi City HSE Division for its remarkable safety achievements demonstrated on Saadiyat island and its dedication to best working practices. TDIC recently marked a record of 10 million working hours in the construction of Saadiyat Beach Villas with no Injuries, a feat it had proudly achieved along with its partners. This luxury development, which enjoys a prime location next door to a collection of international five-star resorts, such as The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, recently witnessed its first phase of 264 villas near completion – and residents have already started moving in. The second phase, launched in November 2011, will see 90 villas delivered by year end.
Nabil Al Kendi, Chief Development Officer of TDIC, expressed the company’s gratitude during an award ceremony held with Abu Dhabi Municipality officials. “We thank Abu Dhabi Municipality for their appreciation of our success and for their encouragement to promote health, safety and environment in the Emirate. We are proud to be continuously recognised by such reputable and highly credible organisations for our successful achievements in delivering world-class cultural and tourism assets in the Emirate; and more importantly, for our strong commitments in ensuring a secure and healthy working environment and preserving the welfare of our employees,” said Al Kendi.
“We are also delighted to see an increased fascination for Saadiyat Beach Villas with more home-owners gradually locating into this exclusive high-end community on Saadiyat. This residential project features exquisitely designed luxury homes accompanied with facilities of the highest standards and surrounded by a beautiful natural environment,” explained Al Kendi.
Eng. Abdulaziz Zurub, Heath, Safety and Environment Manager at Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, stated: “TDIC has demonstrated great efforts in promoting the welfare of its workers on Saadiyat, particularly from a health, safety and environmental perspective. We are delighted to present TDIC with a certification of appreciation for their achievements, as we believe they are setting a great example for developers in the region by exercising high standards and ethical principles.”
TDIC maintains a strict policy to implement fair employment practices among all workers and contractors who are employed on TDIC’s projects. The company has been recognised for its achievements, such as its development of Saadiyat Construction Village – a high-quality, modern construction community project built to international standards to accommodate a capacity of up to 20,000 workers.
With its broad range of social, recreational and educational facilities – such as multilingual libraries, computer and Internet access, gymnasiums, and floodlit sporting area with four cricket pitches, basketball court and tennis court – the village has become an exemplifying model in the region. This accommodation facility is intelligently designed to ease the lives of the workers by providing them with barbershops, banking facilities, prayer rooms, spacious dining halls, food outlets and shops with highly affordable goods.
TDIC’s partners – Al Jaber Building, Turner Construction Company and KEO International Consultants - were also recognised by Municipality of Abu Dhabi City for being part of this Saadiyat achievement.
