TDIC Achieves 10 Million Working Hours Safety Record On Saadiyat Beach Villas
(4 September 2012)

Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the master developer of tourism, cultural and residential projects in Abu Dhabi, along with its partners, celebrated 10 million working hours in the construction of Saadiyat Beach Villas with no accidents.

This outstanding safety achievement demonstrates TDIC’s dedication to best working practices, particularly in the welfare of its workers.

The luxury development, which started construction in September in 2009, has witnessed its first phase of 264 villas (including 10 show villas) near completion, and residents have already started moving in. The second phase, launched in November 2011, will see 90 villas delivered by year end.

Nabil Al Kendi, Chief Development Officer of TDIC, stated: "We are proud of the Saadiyat Beach Villas achievement and pleased to celebrate this joint effort with our partners. We are also delighted to see home-owners gradually locating into this exclusive upscale community on Saadiyat Island.

"As a residential project, this features high-end luxury homes developed in cutting-edge design and ultra-chic facilities amid a beautiful and inspiring natural environment. As a construction feat, the 10 million-hour safety record demonstrates our commitment to ensuring a secure and healthy working environment, and underlines TDIC’s strict policy to implement and maintain fair employment practices among all workers and contractors who are employed on TDIC’s projects," he explained.

TDIC created in 2009 its Employment Practices Policy, which is primarily based on and complements the UAE Labour Law, to ensure that best practices are fully implemented pertaining to the well being, benefits and interests of its workers. One of numerous achievements TDIC has realised in this regard is its Saadiyat Construction Village, a high-quality, modern construction community project built to international standards to accommodate a capacity of up to 20,000 construction workers who are dedicated to developing the world-class projects on Saadiyat Island. With its broad range of social, recreational and educational facilities - such as multilingual libraries, computer and Internet access, gymnasiums, and floodlit sporting area with four cricket pitches, basketball court and tennis court - the village has become an exemplifying model in the region.

"Through the policies we have established that set fair employment relations practices between TDIC and its contractors and subcontractors, we continue to strongly emphasize the protection of employees working on Saadiyat and their provision of good standards of living," added Al Kendi.

Meanwhile, Saadiyat Beach Villas, located in the island’s Saadiyat Beach District hospitality hotspot, has been witnessing a gradual influx of residents who have made this luxurious destination their new home. The villas enjoy a prime location next door to a collection of international five-star resorts, such as The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi.

The demand for this luxury residential community is attributed to the exquisite design and attention to detail found in each of the project’s 354 villas. Saadiyat Beach Villas come in three distinctive styles - Arabian, Mediterranean and Contemporary - and offer high-quality finishes such as marble kitchen surfaces, intricate mosaic tiles and bold geometric windows. The villas have been designed to distinctive standards to reflect the requirements of discerning clients, and are available in a range of sizes, catering to a variety of individuals’ needs.

In 2013, a number of important community services and developments will be open to serve residents of Saadiyat Beach Villas. These include a purpose-built nursery, which will be operated by an internationally-recognised academic operator and will accommodate up to 120 children. A retail centre offering day-to-day conveniences is also set to be developed, which will feature a grocery store, pharmacy, hair and nail salon, and coffee shop.
