FGB Holds Summer Training Programme for Emiratis
(15 August 2012)
Programme aimed to support FGB’s Emiratisation Strategy and to recognise UAE National potential

Leading financial partner of choice in the UAE, First Gulf Bank (FGB) held a closing ceremony for a summer training course that it launched for UAE Nationals. Following the bank’s core belief in the importance of investing in young Emiratis, the event recognised the efforts of trainees and worked towards encouraging them to continue in developing themselves.

The Summer Training Programme aimed to provide UAE youth with cutting-edge opportunities to aid them in establishing a successful future career. The 6- week scheme enabled participants to experience a real working atmosphere in a bank, in addition to providing them with tools and knowledge on the banking industry in general. The program, which started on July 5 to August 12, 2012, provided trainees with the chance to work at different departments of FGB, including Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Business Support, Human Resources, and First Gulf Properties.

Commenting on the programme, Abdulrahman Saqr, Senior Vice President and Head of Emiratisation, said: “In FGB, we take Emiratisation very seriously and work on implementing it within our different operations. Our comprehensive strategy which covers all aspects and areas of success for UAE Nationals supports the development of the UAE as a whole.”

“We have developed a variety of UAE National Development Programs for graduates and students, in addition to creating a wide range of schemes for experienced nationals across the various departments in the bank. These initiatives follow our goal of guiding Emiratis towards a brighter future and successful career paths. One of our key priorities is maintaining our position as an ‘employer of choice’ for UAE Nationals,” he added.

Trainee Laila Ibrahim said regarding the training programme: “FGB’s Summer Training Programme ultimately bridged a gap for me, strengthened my existing theoretical knowledge, and provided me with many important skills. I would recommend that all Emirati youth participate in it. This programme has not only placed me within real-life experiences and scenarios which I will be exposed to in the future, but it also allowed me to understand the specifics of being employed within the banking sector. I would like to thank FGB and all the employees who worked with me for their support, and I hope to work for the Bank in the future”

FGB had previously launched a number of other Emirati training schemes such as ‘Al Manara’ programme which works on empowering current UAE National employees to enable them to mentor fresh Emirati talent. In addition, the bank also established a leadership development programme called “Nujoom” for Emirati youth.
